Rose-Hulman Baseball Stands 3-2 After Loss to St. John Fisher


ZobristSJFCWINTER HAVEN, FLA. -- St. John Fisher, ranked No. 23 nationally in the NCAA Division III preseason national poll, outhit Rose-Hulman to earn a 12-7 victory in Florida on Wednesday. 

St. John Fisher scored eight times in the second inning, before Rose-Hulman scored three times in the third, once in the sixth and three times in the seventh to close within 11-7. 

Sophomore Bobby Newman (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and senior Michael Kovacs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) led the Rose-Hulman offense with three hits each. 

Newman slapped three singles with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Kovacs had two doubles and one single with two runs scored. 

Senior B.J. Zobrist (Eureka, Ill.) (pictured) slapped two hits, including a double, with one run and one RBI.  Sophomore Donald Stopka (Grayslake, Ill./Carmel Catholic) added two singles and one RBI. 

Chris Roeder led the St. John Fisher offense with a three-run home run, and Ben Bostick had three hits and three RBIs for the Cardinals.

Rose-Hulman stands 3-2 on the season, while St. John Fisher improved to 3-2.  The Fightin' Engineers square off with Augustana College in a nine-inning matchup on Thursday.
