TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology snapped a 5-5 tie with two runs in the eighth inning to
earn a 7-6 victory over Fontbonne University on Wednesday night at
Art Nehf Field.
Fontbonne rallied from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the seventh inning, before the Engineers came up with their own rally to secure the win.
Sophomore Bobby Newman (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) blasted a two-run home run among his three hits with three RBIs to lead the Rose-Hulman offensive effort.
Senior Chris Stemple (Mount Vernon) (pictured) added three singles and scored two runs for the Engineers.
Senior Michael Kovacs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) contributed two singles and scored one run for the Engineers. Sophomore Will Burchett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) scored three runs to provide depth.
Sophomore Ethan Post (Rockford, Mich.) tossed six strong inning and allowed just one earned run on six hits to lead the Rose-Hulman pitching performance. After Fontbonne scored once in the ninth, senior Andrew Markowitz (Crown Point/Bishop Noll) recorded the final two outs on a bases loaded, ninth inning double play to earn his first save.
Sean Fisher led the Fontbonne offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Rose-Hulman improved to 7-4 on the season and returns to action with a three-game series against North Central College starting Friday night.
