AUBURNDALE, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology used big innings to sweep Rochester Institute of
Technology in college baseball action on
Friday.
Rose-Hulman won the first game 5-2 fueled by a four-run third inning that featured just two hits. Junior Will Burchett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) led the rally with a hit and a run.
Senior Andrew Oakley (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) (pictured) pitched his second complete game and threw five strikeouts while picking up his second win of the season.
The Engineers then came back and won game two 9-6, powered behind a six run first inning which featured four errors by Rochester.
Three players had two hits in the game, led by freshman Andrew Benitez (Mililani, Hawaii) who started the game with a single and later scored in the inning. He also added a double later in the game.
Sophomore Matt Turk (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail) also doubled in the first inning and added a run.
Freshman Hank Akard (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) added one run and a single and double while Senior Michael Kovacs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) chipped in with two runs.
Junior Jim Bob Schuler (Salem, Ind./North Harrison) picked up his second win of the season and freshman Kevin Farley (Centennial, Colo./Littleton) picked up his first save with three scoreless and hitless innings in relief.
Rose-Hulman now stands 5-3 on the season and will face Aurora University Saturday to finish their Florida trip.
