GAME 1 BOX SCORE; GAME 2 BOX SCORE

KrasichSJFCTERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman and Transylvania University battled to a doubleheader split with a pair of tightly contested 6-5 matchups in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon.

Transylvania rallied from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the sixth and one run in the eighth inning to capture a 6-5 extra inning victory in the opener.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman rallied from 5-2 behind to score three runs in the fifth and the game winner in the seventh to claim a 6-5 win.  Freshman John Krasich (Westfield) (pictured) emerged as the hero with a two-out double to plate the game winning run in the nightcap.

Thomas Tolliver led Transylvania with four hits in game one, and John Doering had three hits and the game winning double in the eighth inning to lead the Pioneer victory.  Ken Riley added a solo home run, then helped force the tie with a two-run home run in the eighth inning.

For Rose-Hulman, senior Michael Kovacs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) slapped three hits in game one to lead the offensive effort.  Senior B.J. Zobrist (Eureka, Ill.) added two singles, two RBIs and two sacrifice hits, and junior Will Burchett (Mokena, Ill.) pitched in with two singles and one run scored.

On the mound, freshman Kevin Farley (Centennial, Colo.) tossed 2 2/3 innings and allowed just one run with one strikeout despite taking the loss.

In game two, Transylvania jumped out to a 5-2 lead after 4 1/2 innings.  Senior Chris Stemple (Mount Vernon) singled, Kovacs added a double, and junior Derek Dauenbaugh (Bloomington, Ill./University) singled home one run to make the score 5-3.  Sophomore Bobby Newman (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) added an RBI single, and sophomore Donald Stopka (Grayslake, Ill./Carmel Catholic) tied the score with an RBI ground out.

In the seventh, Rose-Hulman relied on singles by Dauenbaugh and Stopka to place runners on first and second with two outs.  Krasich then lofted his game winning double to plate Dauenbaugh with the game winning run.

Rose-Hulman stands 19-9 overall and 9-4 in league play.  Transylvania has a 16-7 overall mark and a 7-4 record in conference games.  Live in-game audio and live in-game statistics for Sunday's series finale will be available at the links above.
