* Architect of the fabled Shook Fieldhouse, used from 1948-97 as the school's multipurpose athletic and recreational facility
* A 1911 Rose-Hulman alumnus, he also captained the baseball team while in school and later played semiprofessional baseball with the Lafayette Red Sox 
* Former member of Rose-Hulman's board of managers, and past president of the Alumni Association
* Received an honorary doctorate degree from Rose-Hulman in 1956
