Thank you for your interest
in being a mentor to a current Rose-Hulman student through the Student
Alumni Association Mentoring Program. Mentoring is one of the best ways to
give back to current Rose-Hulman students. The mentoring program is
designed to be a fairly relaxed program. The mentoring relationship will
basically be conducted through e-mail interaction. Further contact is at
the discretion of the mentoring pair.
As an alumni mentor, you
will be matched with a current Rose-Hulman student who has also expressed
interest in the program for a one year period. At the end of the first
year, you may choose to continue to communicate with the current student,
choose to be matched with a new student, or be freed of any obligation
with the mentoring program.
The mentoring relationship
will grow as the student progresses through Rose-Hulman. Initially,
students may be interested in advice on what classes to take and tips on
how to make the best out of their time at Rose-Hulman. As they continue,
they may seek advice on interviewing skills and how to make contacts
within their chosen industry. In the end, they will be looking for advice
related their career search. Throughout this partnership, students will
like to hear about your personal experiences at Rose-Hulman and your
experiences after graduation. The student will enjoy communicating with an
alumni that has been through experiences similar to theirs. We strongly
encourage you to contact them as soon as possible and continue to contact
them throughout the year, especially at those times when they might be
homesick or need some inspiring words to help them through finals. Keep in
mind, some of the students may be hesitant to contact you first.
Matching is completed based on similar major, interests, and hometowns
when possible.
