Olivencia, a 1994 electrical engineering alumnus, is
director of Oracle's Executive Insight Program of Troy, Mich. Under his
guidance a five-person business development team increased revenue in
the division from $5 million to $30 million over two years. His personal
efforts increased revenue by $17.6 million. HACR
recognized young executives across the country on the basis of the
candidates’ accomplishments, established leadership qualities, industry
expertise, education and employment experiences, as well as a
demonstrated commitment to their communities. The honorees were between
25-40 years of age, of Latino origin and employed by a Fortune 500
company or HACR corporate member. HACR is a coalition of the nation’s
most influential community-based organizations. “We have
found that a company’s success is being increasingly influenced by their
inclusion of professionals from the growing Hispanic population,” said
HACR President and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Orta. “It is important
for us to recognize these young professionals who are helping to fuel
the engines that drive our country’s economy.” Olivencia
joined other Young Hispanic Corporate Achievers award winners in taking
part in a leadership development and networking program and were
formally recognized as role models for other young, corporate
professionals by their respective companies, HACR and invited leaders
from the nation’s capital. Olivencia was six honorees from the Midwest.
Other award winners were executives of AT&T, IBM, Ford Motor Company,
Merck & Co., The Home Depot, PepsiCo Inc., Lehman Brothers, State Farm
Insurance, National City Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Sallie Mae and Union
Pacific Railroad. Olivencia is the product of a modern
day rags-to-rich story. He grew up on the south side of Chicago and his
father, a high school dropout, worked as a carpenter during the day and
a janitor at night to put his son through school. That image drove
Olivencia to succeed in his career and community. After graduating from
Rose-Hulman, he went onto earn a master's degree in business
administration from the University of Notre Dame (2004) and participate
in the Harvard Business School's NACR Corporate Governance program
(2006). He earned the Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business'
Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006. President of the
Hispanic IT Executive Council (HITEC), Olivencia has extensive
experience in strategic planning, technology optimization, business
alignment, and IT finance, with functional specialties in marketing,
finance, and general management. He has implemented successful
technology strategies and business alignment solutions at multiple
Global 500 firms. His expertise crosses diverse industries including
high-tech, software, automotive, public sector, insurance and
telecommunications. Prior to his career at Oracle,
Olivencia had various enterprise architecture and strategy leadership
roles at Ford Motor Company, Intelligroup and Accenture. From a civic
and community perspective, he was the 2005 and 2006 chair of the Detroit
Hispanic Development Corporation’s Technology Breakfast “IT Executive
Bridging the Digital Divide” and was featured in BusinessWeek as part of
its MBA “Day in the Life” series and Hobson’s Hispanic MBA Student’s
Guide 2007 Edition. He is married and has small two children and enjoys
spending free time in family activities.
