Preparing financially for college

We know that not many families can afford the full cost of sending their son or daughter to Rose-Hulman. The good news is there is financial aid available. Our Financial Aid Office can help you put together a combination of institutional aid, work study and loans that can make that tuition figure much easier to swallow. Plus there are additional resources available in the form of scholarships, local awards, internships and co-op opportunities.

Investigate courses that will count for college credit
When your child is in high school or even middle school, they may have the opportunity to take courses for college credit. These courses not only give your child a jump on their college education, they can sometimes be taken at a lower cost and will most certainly help you spread out some of the costs of college courses. These courses may be Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes, which require you to take an exam to qualify for college credit. Some high schools also offer Dual Credit courses which are actual college courses that count towards high school graduation requirements. Talk to your guidance counselor to see which options are available in your school district.

Independent 529 Plan
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is also a member of the Independent 529 Plan. The Independent 529 Plan allows you to prepay tuition today that your child can later use at any member college. It provides a guarantee against tuition inflation, and has no start-up fees, no maintenance fees, and no annual fees-and is free from federal taxes.
