The Nationally Competitive EcoCAR2

Competing with graduate Engineering programs and large universities, Rose-Hulman won a place in the highly selective EcoCar2 Challenge. As a result, the RHIT EcoCar2 project received $27.8M in Siemens Software.

The Challenge

Design, build and test a hybrid diesel-electric powertrain to decrease petroleum consumption and emissions utilizing industrial design process.

Successes

• Ranked 9 out of 16 teams
• Increased weighted fuel efficiency from 26 mpg to 62 mpg on highway.
• Eight EcoCAR/Challenge X alumni are now working in the hybrid vehicle sector.
