Hands-On Opportunities

Some of the most important learning takes place beyond the classroom. No matter what your major or career plans, your education will be greatly enhanced if you take advantage of one of the many global programs offered at Rose. Rose students have undertaken everything from traditional junior year study abroad programs, single quarter programs, summer study opportunities, and course-based international experiences. The Humanities and Social Sciences Department regularly sponsors that either included collaborative projects with students at overseas universities or course that include 2-3 week foreign travel components. Similar programs are also offered in other departments. If you are interested in exploring these opportunities, you should contact the Director of Study Abroad and International Exchanges of Global Programs, Chris Dixon.

The Home for Environmentally Responsible Engineering (HERE) is an interdisciplinary, student-focused, sustainability-centered, first-year, living-learning experience.  The program helps students develop communication, awareness, and design skills that will enable personal and professional contributions to global sustainability.  Faculty from numerous departments and staff from across campus work with the cohort.

INK is Rose-Hulman's literary and visual arts magazine.  Edited and created by students, Ink accepts submissions in several genres from all members of the campus community.  The tenth anniversary issue will be published this spring.

In addition, the HSS Department sponsors a wide array of extracurricular activities, including nationally renowned speakers; trips to the opera, symphony, and art exhibitions; an annual photo and essay contests; and various movie festivals. Department members also serve as sponsors for the Rose Thorn student newspaper; and the RHIT Model European Union team.
