Engineering and Ethics

An overview of ETHICS and Indiana STATUTES and RULES for Professional Engineers


Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is pleased to announce a new Continuing Education course to meet the ethics and statutes requirements for Indiana Professional Engineers. In August 2010, State legislation passed the Continuing Education Rule, requiring Indiana Professional Engineers possessing active certificates to complete:

  • Thirty (30) hours of continuing education which meets the requirements of Indiana Code 25-1-4 in order to renew his or her Professional Engineer registration;
  • At least one (1) hour of continuing education each biennium in ethics applicable to the practice of Professional Engineering; and
  • At least one (1) hour of the continuing education each biennium in Indiana Statutes and Rules applicable to the practice of Professional Engineering.

Rose-Hulman is offering an approved course in Indianapolis, IN. The course will be offered on:

The course is certified by the IPLA to provide you with 1.0 PDH on engineering ethics and 1.0 PDH on statutes and rules applicable to Professional Engineering.

Dr. Craig G. Downing

Craig G. Downing, PhD is the department head for Engineering Management and an associate professor of Engineering Management with responsibility for Continuing and Professional Studies. Professor Downing has more than 12 years of experience teaching manufacturing, management, and mathematics at the post-secondary level. Additionally, he has amassed 10 years of industrial experience, four years as a process engineer and six years as a private consultant for organizations including Lockheed Martin/NASA, Parker Hannifin, and Crain Enterprises. His interests are rooted in Industrial-Academic relationships, Quality Management System Development, and Production/Operations Management. He is a certified manufacturing engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt.

William A. McKenna

Bill is a Partner in the firm Woodard, Emhardt, Moriarty, McNett & Henry, LLP.  He concentrates his practice on the litigation of intellectual property issues. Bill also focuses on the procurement and strategic development of patent portfolios for technology startup companies, and assists them with protection strategies for core intellectual property assets and clearance of products to avoid the intellectual property of others.

Bill has a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a JD degree from Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington.

Advance Registration

The required advance registration includes a $100 fee for the cost of the course, materials, refreshments, and certificate of completion.  Seating is limited to the first 22 registrants, so register today!
