Season's Greetings from the Staging Area
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our alumni and friends! This has been a busy time for the Department of Civil Engineering. We have three new faculty members, made some changes in our senior design course, and hosted an ABET accreditation visit to our department this fall. Instrumental to our preparation for the ABET visit was the assessment of student work by some of your alumni colleagues. Mike Reeves (06), Drew Twarek (05) Jon Keim (05), Jackie Sanders (04), and Troy Madlem (96) all donated hours of their time to partner with faculty members to rate many student submissions as a part of our assessment process. Their work was instrumental to better understanding our students' attainment of our student outcomes. In other news, we are also pleased to confirm that, despite his May retirement, Jim McKinney remains on campus with us as an adjunct faculty member. He is teaching one course in the fall and one in the spring, and administered the Indiana HMA Technician Certification this winter. His classes, insights and advice continue to be a valuable part of our program.
We hope you enjoy reading through this issue of CE Echoes. This is a time, however, not only to reflect on all of things we have been doing, but rather to be thankful for all of our blessings. We continue to have the best possible team of staff and faculty members working together to foster great learning in our program. We also continue to be wonderfully supported by friends and alumni through many different activities that only serve to make our program stronger and our students' learning better. As Department Head, I want to especially extend a most heart-felt thanks to all of you for your continued commitment to civil engineering at Rose-Hulman.
We wish all of you safe travels and warm times with friends and family during the Christmas season.
