Lois teaching kids at a local elementary school.

Meet Lois

A biomathematics major from Greencastle, Indiana.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS YOU’RE INVOLVED IN:

The HERE program, Engineers for a Sustainable World and Engineers Without Borders.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB?

I hope to one day work all over the world in national parks and teach people about the importance of being aware of your carbon footprint. I also hope to work in a lab and maybe even develop new technology that aids in the sustainability effort.

WHAT’S YOUR IDEAL WEEKEND?

My ideal weekend would be a day out in the town shopping a local stores, then going back home and having a movie night with my parents and three older sisters.

STAR TREK OR STAR WARS?

Star Wars. I've never taken the time to watch Star Trek.

WHAT IS THE NERDIEST THING YOU DO?

I'm not really nerdy, but I'm always making to-do lists for everything. It helps me stay organized.

FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?

My favorite flavor of ice cream has to be mint chocolate chip. I take after my mom -- it's her favorite, too.

WHAT’S THE BEST KEPT SECRET ON CAMPUS?

If I tell you the secret, then it wouldn't be much of a secret then.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO STUDY SCIENCE AT ROSE-HULMAN?

Biomathematics is interesting because I had never really thought before about who came up with formulas on how to explain biological situations, like a pH scale or standard deviation. I thought it would be cool to understand how this works and maybe one day use applied mathematics to explain something that we are having trouble explaining today.

Quote

At Rose, no matter what major you are, there are always places to go or people to talk to if you're having trouble.
