FIRST JOB AFTER ROSE-HULMAN?

Department Manager at Frito Lay in Bakersfield, California.

MOST VALUABLE LESSON YOU LEARNED ON THAT JOB?

I learned a lot about how to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures and how to be a manager of others.

MOST MEMORABLE ROSE-HULMAN PROFESSOR?

I had a lot of great professors…  I think Dr. Abegg [Chemical Engineering] was the most memorable as he would just tell you how it is. He would push and pick on you until you started to speak up for yourself. I also remember him calling me out for sleeping in class.

IDEAL WEEKEND?

Heading out to hike a new trail to a great viewpoint or waterfall with my family and maybe pick up a few geocaches!

STAR TREK OR STAR WARS?

Star Trek

WHAT IS THE NERDIEST THING YOU DO?

I like to go geocaching. I started doing it in 2006 when fellow alum Alison Bailey showed it to me. It was amazing to me that you could pull up some coordinates on the internet and then go out and find an actual container in real life. I love the creativity that the different cache owners put into the containers and locations. It is a great way to visit a new place as you often get to see great things that are just a little off the beaten path.

ADVICE TO INCOMING ROSE-HULMAN STUDENTS?

Get involved in whatever club, group or activity interests you and maybe it is several things. I found out that I had leadership skills that I didn’t know that I had and also formed lifelong bonds with so many great people!
