Hey girls! Here’s what happened at the
last meeting:
-Discussed
preliminary ideas for
WEE programàIf
you have
other ideas, let Joanna or Lindsey
Saxton know
Activities:
-Ice breakers
-Sit in on a class with a
freshman girl
-Interactive lab
activities/demos (talk to lab professors
from BE, ME, CS, etc. departments to see
if they would be interested) and allow
girls to choose area of interest
-Rather than a traditional
tour, have a scavenger hunt around
campus to learn about history and
various things about campus life
-Brief information session
about clubs, sports, and other
extracurricular activities offered
on-campus
-Lunch:
Have SWE members dispersed
at tables to talk to girls in a closer
and more relaxed environment (rather
than a panel of students)
-Keynote speaker (possibly
successful, female Rose grad) talk about
role of women in engineering work field)
Date of event:
-Either Friday May 15th,
or Friday May 22nd starting
at 9am (Preferably 22nd since
there is a long weekend to study for
finals and a lot of classes get canceled
Friday of 10th week)
-Give girls coming from
farther away the option of staying
overnight Thursday so it’s not a huge
hassle.
-This
Thursday from 4:30-6:30 making phone calls to accepted
seniors still deciding on colleges
-meet in Admissions office
(I’ll send out a reminder of time and
location)
-if there are enough people,
we’ll be getting pizza and soft drinks
-Let
Joanna know if you can make it
even if you can’t stay the whole time—we
are going to
need more
help!!
(So far signed
up: Homa Hariri, Emma Dosmar, Kristen
Latta, Kim Secrist(after 10th),
Lindsey Saxton, Joanna)
-Emma Dosmar talked about
SWE t-shirts
-We are going to be doing
iron-ons (it’ll be after break sometime)
so that everyone can get the cut, color,
and style t-shirt they prefer
(You can even
put it on a canvas bag and other items
as well if you’d like)
-If you didn’t sign up at
the meeting today, but would like to
let Joanna
or Emma know (dosmare@rose-hulman.edu)
so she knows how much supplies to
purchase.
-Still need volunteers for Blue Key
National Honors Society sponsored
“Youth
Science Day” on May 6th
in the SRC
-There are two shifts
(9-11:15 and 11:45-1:45)
-Give a short
presentation/demonstration (representing
SWE) to elementary students to promote
careers in technology
-Let me know if you are
interested in participating so I can
RSVP as to whether or not we will be
present at the event, we need more
people though!
-Jenn Fischer put together an awesome
Easter Egg painting social—great job
Jenn! And thanks to everyone who stuck
around for the fun
J
-Final note: Officer Transitioning
will be taking place next week on
Tuesday, so all exec offices and
committee chairs should try to leave
their schedules open. I’ll give more
details in the next few days though.
As usual, let me know if you have
questions or would like to help out with
something. Have a great rest of the
week!! (Just remember: Spring break is
soooooooo close!!
