Range Officers

The Range Officers are some of the hardest working individuals on the range. These individuals are responsible for maintaining safe practices at the shoots, but are also responsible for many other things. Range Officers reinforce the rules and make sure that everyone has a safe, but fun time while participating in ProTeq shooting events.

Range Officers train monthly to keep up on both safety practices at the range and to improve their proficiency with firearms. All of this training culminates at the end of the year when ProTEQ sets up an Observe, Analyze, React course for the Range Officers to run through and see just how far they have come with their handgun skills.

Their tests come on the days where they staff events for groups from 10 to 170 people. On those days, the Range Officers are not only responsible for maintaining safe practices, but for setup, teardown, and the cleaning of the guns after the event is over. For a 2-3 hour shoot, the Range Officers can easily put in twice that time in extra work on top of their duties watching the line.

Starting in the 2007-2008 school year, all Range Officers are required to sign a Range Officer Creed modeled off of the one published by the National Range Officer Insitute. Our Range Officer Creed serves as a reminder to all of the Range Officers that they are held to a higher standard than other shooters.

For the above reasons, you can see why the Range Officers are some of the best and the brightest.
