The Gamma Lambda chapter of Chi Omega was chartered in the Winter of 1996 at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Chi Omega was the first national sorority on campus followed closely by Delta Delta Delta.  The first pledges included eight women who had the nickname "The Rookies."

Shortly thereafter, nineteen more women were pledged to Chi Omega bringing the new charter class to twenty-seven members.
