ROSE-HULMAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
POLICY ON USE OF CAMPUS DIRECTORY LISTINGS
CONFIDENTIAL
INFORMATION POLICY
From time to time, Rose-Hulman provides the campus community with Institute directory listings that contain names, campus mailbox numbers, addresses and phone numbers of individuals that are intended to provide students, faculty and staff with information needed for use in everyday operations.
Directory listings are considered to be confidential information subject to the Family Education Right and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLB). FERPA assures students that their records are protected from unauthorized access or disclosure requiting a clear understanding of the type of information that can be released without an individual’s consent including the release of personally identifiable student or employee information. GLB rules are related to the safeguarding of customer financial information.
Directory listings are intended to be used for “internal operating purposes only”.
The distribution, publishing, sale or otherwise revealing
any of the Institute directory listings to an individual, organization or other
party whatsoever, outside the campus community, is expressly prohibited except
with the specific prior written authorization of the Office of Administrative
Services. Violation of this policy may
constitute just cause for disciplinary action including possible criminal or
civil penalties as provided by law.
