Installing X-Win32
Installable as: Localmgr (Click here for login instructions)
Install size: 44MB
Available from: \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\software\apps\X-Win32\
This software will only work when connected to the Rose-Hulman network.
Installation Instructions
- Login as Localmgr. (Instructions Here)
- Click Start->Run and type \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\software
- Enter your username and password if prompted
- Double click Apps->X-Win32 to navigate to the X-Win32 folder
- Run the X-Win32 setup/installation application x-win91-1020sf.exe
- Select a language, e.g. English, then click OK
- On the Welcome screen click Next
- On the License Agreement screen indicate that you agree to the license, then click Next
- Verify your information and click Next
- Choose the Destination Folder, then click Next
- Select the Custom Setup Type, then click Next
- Click the dropdown arrow on the Translations feature and select the red X (Do not install this feature). Then click Next
- Click Install
- The program will begin to install
- Click Finish
- The Windows firewall may display a warning about X-Win32. Click the Unblock button.
- The X-Config program should start automatically. If not, click Start -> All Programs -> X-Win32 -> X-Config
- The X-Win32 License Wizard should launch. Select Network (Floating), then click OK
- Copy the contents of LicenseKey.txt into the text box, then click Next
- The floating key should have been successfully added. Click Finish<
- If the X-Win32 Welcome screen is visible, you can either close it or create an RSH, REXEC or SSH session
- To access a Linux server like addiator.rose-hulman.edu create an SSH session
- Type a name for the session, e.g. Addiator, and select SSH, then click Next
- Enter the host name, e.g. addiator.rose-hulman.edu, then click Next
- Enter your logon information
- Select Linux, NOT Linux (Xauth), then click Next
- Select the session name, e.g. Addiator, then click the Launch button
- You should now be logged-on to Addiator with a xterm terminal window open
- Run X-Win32 by clicking Start -> All Programs -> X-Win32 -> X-Win32
This version of X-Win32 includes an SSH client. Depending on your application requirements you may not need to install SecureCRT.
Configuring SecureCRT for use with X-Win32
- Make sure you have SecureCRT (Click here if not)
- Make sure you already setup a session for Addiator (Click here if not)
- Launch SecureCRT
- Open the Connect window (it may already be open)
- Right click on the session for Addiator and click Properties
- In the tree on the left, expand Connection and Port Forwarding and click on X11
- Check the Forward X11 Packets box
- Click OK
Using X-Win32 under Windows XP with SecureCRT
- To start X-Win32, go to Start->All Programs->X-Win32 9.1->X-Win32
- If you are prompted to create a session, click Cancel
- In the system tray, next to the clock, there should be an X icon
- Start SecureCRT by going to Start->Programs->SecureCRT 5.5->SecureCRT 5.5
- Click on Addiator
- If prompted about a host public key, click Accept and Save
- Enter your username and password when prompted
- When you launch an X application like Maple or MATLAB, append an ampersand after the program name (i.e. xmaple &) so that you can run other applications while Maple is running
- When you are finished, close the open X applications and type logout in SecureCRT
- Exit X-Win32 by right-clicking on the X icon in the system tray, then click Exit
