Backup and Restore
Backing Up Data
Backing up to a Secure Digital card is the recommended method for backing up your applications and data on the iPaq. The Secure Digital card is especially ideal when you have a large amount of data and applications on your iPaq. The other option is backing up to the iPaq File Store (approx. 20MB available). Backing up your data to the iPaq File Store will enable you to restore a backup image even after a hard reset from your iPaq. If backing up all your data will require the backup file to be larger than the iPAQ File Store area, then you will need to use a Secure Digital card. You can also do a backup using ActiveSync, but it is not recommended due to the lengthy amount of time it will take to create the backup. The following will step you through the process of backing up your data.
- Insert a Secure Digital card in the card slot of your iPaq if you intend to backup to an SD card
- Go to Start->Programs->iPaq Backup
- Click the Backup tab
- Click the ... button next to the backup file name field
- Enter a Name for the backup file or use the default name shown
- Select a Folder to place the backup file or choose None to have it placed at the root the card
- Select Storage Card or iPAQ File Store for the location
- Click OK
- Click Backup...
- Click Start
- Wait for the backup to finish (approx. 2 minutes or less); you should receive a notification when the backup is finished
- Click OK on the notification dialog
- Click OK in the iPaq Backup window toward the bottom
- Click OK at the top of the screen
- Do a soft reset by pushing the pen into the hole on the lower end of the iPaq
Restoring Data
After you have a backup image to restore to your iPaq you can use the following procedure to restore the backup image to your iPaq. It is suggested that you do a hard reset before you do a restore, but not necessary.
