Accessing DFS
DFS is accessible in Windows though a built-in client. DFS access is possible in other clients but is not supported by IAIT.
Direct Access
- Go to Start -> Run and type in \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\ and hit enter.
- If a login box comes up login with your username@rose-hulman.edu and your network password.
- A windows explorer window should come up with the DFS root.
Network Links
DFS Network Links are located in My Network Places if you have them setup. If not you can set them up though the following procedure.
Link Descriptions
- DFS Class - This maps to the acedemic departmental DFS folder located at \\dfs\rose-hulman.edu\class\
- DFS Home - This maps to the users DFS home directory
- DFS Root - This maps to the DFS root directory \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\
- DFS Users - This maps to the DFS users directory \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\Users
Setup
- Go to Start -> Run and type in \\rose-hulman.edu\dfs\software\ and hit enter.
- If a login box comes up login with your username@rose-hulman.edu and your network password.
- In the explorer window that comes up, double click on the runScript.bat file.
- If prompted enter in your Network username and hit enter.
- If prompted enter in your Network password and hit enter.
Non-Domain Access
If you are using a computer that is not on the Rose-Hulman domain and wish to access DFS, you may need to manually add an entry in the TCP/IP settings if you get an error regarding the Domain Controller. Follow the instructions below to fix this error.
- Open Network Connection Properties
- Open TCP/IP Properties
- Click "Advanced"
- Open the DNS Configuration tab
- Select "Apphend these DNS suffixes" and add "rose-hulman.edu"
