You must have the most current root certificates installed on your machine for the RHIT-1X network to work. See our Root Certificates page for more information
RHIT-1X Setup Instructions for Windows 7
- Download the latest Rose-Hulman root certificate http://www.rose-hulman.edu/TSC/services/other_services/root_certificate/
- Open the downloaded certificate file and select "Open." This will bring up the Certificate details page.
- Click the "Install Certificate" button. This will bring up the Certificate Import Wizard.
- Click Next,
- Select "Place all certificates in the following store;" click Browse.
- Select the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" folder; then click OK.
- Click Next, Finish. Confirm any security warnings and dismiss any popups that appear.
- Close the Certificate properties page.
- Open the Network and Sharing Center (from wireless icon in the system tray or from the Control Panel.
- Click Manage Wireless Networks in the left sidebar.
- Click Add. This will bring up the manual connection dialog box.
- Select "Manually create a network profile."
- Give the network name as "RHIT-1X," the security type as "WPA2-Enterprise" and the encryption as "AES."
- Select "Change connection settings;" this will open the "RHIT-1X Wireless Network Properties" dialog.
- Open the "Security" tab. Ensure the security type is "WPA2-Enterprise: and the encryption is "AES."
- Ensure the authentication method is "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)." Click Settings; this will open the "Protected EAP Properties" dialog box.
- Ensure that "Validate server certificate: is checked. In the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities: control, scroll down and check "Rose-Hulman."
- Ensure the authentication method is "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)." Click Configure.
- Uncheck "automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)." Click OK.
- Click OK to close the "Protected EAP Properties" window.
- Click Advanced settings.
- In the "802.1X settings" tab, check "Specify authentication mode." Make sure the authentication mode is :User or computer authentication."
- Click OK twice to close the "Advanced settings" and "RHIT-1X Wireless Network Properties" windows.
- Click Close to close the "Manually connect to a wireless network" window.
- Click on the wireless icon in the system tray. Select the "RHIT-1X" network. Click Connect.
- In the box that appears, enter your network username (without the @Rose-Hulman.edu).
- Accept any security warnings that appear.
RHIT1X Setup Instructions for XP
To setup a wireless network card in Windows XP to use Rose-Hulman's RHIT-1X wireless network, you must register the MAC address for the card.
- Go to Start -> Control Pane and click on Network Connections
- Right-click on Wireless Network Connection and click on Properties.
- Click on the Wireless Networks tab.
- Under the Preferred networks section click the Add button.
- In the box that comes up type RHIT-1X in the Network Name (SSID) box.
- Select WPA under Network Authentication.
- Select AES under Data encryption.

- Click on the Authentication tab.
- Select Protect EAP (PEAP) from the EAP type drop down box.
- Make sure that Authenticate as computer when computer information is available box is checked.
- Make sure that Authenticate as guest when computer information is unavailable box is not checked.

- Click on the Properities button.
- In the window that comes up make sure that Validate server certificate is checked.
- Click on the Configure button.
- In the box that comes up uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password. Then click ok.

- Click Ok several times to back out of all of the menus.
- The wireless network icon in the taskbar should display an information bubble asking you to either process your logon information for the network or select a certificate or credentials. Click on this bubble.

- Enter your Network username and password in the boxes. Leave the logon domain blank and hit Ok.
- If another dialogue comes up in the taskbar click on it again.
- If a validate server certificate box comes up click the Ok button.

- If a box comes up with your username greyed out it means that you entered in your password wrong. Try entering it again.
- If a validate server certificate box comes up click the Ok button.
The network icon for your wireless card in the taskbar should now say Connected to RHIT-1X if you are in an area with wireless coverage. If it does not connect contact the Help Desk.
