This is an optional exam for those students wishing to test out of the introductory physics course, Physics I, which covers mechanics, Coulomb's Law, and Lorentz Force Law. Students may bring a calculator and pencil for this exam.

E104, Moench Hall
This optional exam is for students who wish to place into CSSE221, Fundamentals of Software Development Honors. This course is intended for students who have substantial programming experience in an object-oriented language such as Java. Upon completion of the course, students will receive credit for both Fundamentals of Software Development I and II. Those who have earned an AP score of 4 or 5 should not take this exam; such students will be automatically eligible for CSSE221. The placement exam will be used to help students who did not take the APCS exam to decide whether Fundamentals of Software Development Honors or Fundamentals of Software Development I (CSSE120) is the most appropriate beginning course for them. Transfer students with approved transfer credit are excused from taking the exam. All Fundamentals of Software Development courses are taught in Java.

CSSE lab, F225, Moench Hall
This session is for students not enrolled in the CSSE program. It will highlight the role of CS/SE in engineering careers and the opportunities available to pursue a minor or a double major in CSSE. The session will be a preview of the first CSSE class.

CSSE lab, F225, Moench Hall
This new course is the first required one in the new Robotics Certificate program; Students of all majors who are interested in Robotics should attend. At the end of the session students may enroll, subject to the instructor’s approval. This session is combined with the CSSE120 preview session.

The Rose-Hulman Emergency Response Program training includes information on how to react or respond to various emergency situations that could arise on campus. These include, but are not limited to: fire, bomb threats, chemical spills or releases, earthquakes, violent persons, severe weather, utility outages, medical emergencies, and others. The CENS information describes how our outdoor siren system operates as well as how to register for emergency notifications via text messaging, email, phone call or other media.

Spend some time learning about the history of Rose-Hulman since its founding in 1874 as the Terre Haute School of Industrial Science. The talk will highlight the people who have made the school what it is today, and the traditions that have marked its history. Hear about such things as the origins of Rosie the Elephant, the unlamented freshman beanie, the art of "laking", the science of bonfire construction, outhouse placement, Greek colonization, Fightin' Engineer all-stars, and secrets of the success of the Solar Phantom and the Challenge X Race Team as well as other lore and legends.

Kevin has appeared on Comedy Central’s Come Home, Premium Blend and was a winner of the HBO Comedy Competition.

RHIT Mathematics Placement Exam
There is no specific time set aside for the Mathematics Placement Exams during student orientation as placement is primarily accomplished through the national AP Calculus tests, college transfer credit, and Fast Track Calculus. Students wishing to write a Mathematics Placement Exam during student orientation must make an appointment with the Chair of the Mathematics Department in advance of arrival on campus. Financial Aid
