One Hundred and Thirtieth Commencement

 

May 24, 2008

 

For your planning purposes, the following information should help answer some questions that you may have as we approach the end of the 2007-2008 school year.
 

Commencement Marshal Pete Gustafson, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, and Indianapolis Emerald Society Firefighters bagpipers lead the procession down the red carpet.

Caps and Gowns - Students participating in Commencement are expected to wear proper academic attire.  Their cap and gown should be ordered through the Rose-Hulman Bookstore and will be available for pickup when it comes in (late April).  Students who are not on-campus and need to place an order can do so by contacting the Bookstore at 812-877-8344 or at Bookstore@Rose-Hulman.edu.  Please specify your height, weight and level of degree (MS or BS) when ordering.  

Formal Invitation - The school will send parents and spouses the formal invitations by the end of April.

Personal Announcements - Personal announcements are available for purchase through the Rose-Hulman Bookstore.  

The Sports and Recreation Center field house was standing-room-only during during the college's 127th commencement.

Commencement Rehearsal - May 8, 2008, 4:30 p.m. in Hulbert Arena (Sports and Recreation Center)  Graduates should report to Hulbert Arena of the Sports & Recreation Center for rehearsal. Commencement seating lineup and instructions will be distributed at this time. Bring your cap and gown as the senior class group picture will be taken. The Senior Send Off, sponsored by the Office of Alumni Affairs, will immediately follow. 


Senior Soiree Farewell Reception - May 23, 2008 - 6:00-7:30 p.m. - Hulbert Arena in the Sports & Recreation Center.  On Friday, May 23rd, graduates and parents of the class of 2008 are invited to a farewell reception hosted by President and Mrs. Jakubowski. It will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in Hulbert Arena of the Sports & Recreation Center.

The red carpet treatment awaits graduates prior to crossing the stage to receive their diplomas.

Commencement -May 24, 2008, 11:00 a.m. in the Sports & Recreation Center  Graduates should report to Hatfield Hall at 10:00 a.m. to line up for the academic procession.

Graduate Guest Seating - There will be an area of seating for guests of graduates in the Sports and Recreation Center. It is not necessary to have a seating ticket for this area. This area is not numbered seating but rather an area location of seating for family and friends.  As a courtesy to all guests in attendance, we ask that seats not be held for others. 

Special Seating Accommodations - Guests who require handicap access or seating for hearing impaired may request special seating in advance by contacting Kim Jones in the Student Affairs Office.

Family, friends and faculty congratulate graduates at an after-commencement reception.

Taking photographs and videos in the Sports & Recreation Center - The Sports & Recreation Center is not suited for long range photography, especially flash photography. A professional photographer from Graduation Images will be present on stage at the ceremony to take a photograph of each graduate as they receive their diploma from the President.  You will receive a free proof of this photo in the mail.  You may visit the Graduation Images website at www.gradimages.com or have questions answered by calling 800-424-3686.  A video of the Commencement Ceremony will also be available for purchase from Dason's Video.  Order forms for purchasing the video will be provided to each graduate in advance. 

Live Webcast of Commencement Ceremony - For those who are unable to attend, a live webcast of Rose-Hulman's Commencement ceremony is scheduled to be broadcast beginning at 10:30 a.m. by accessing the following link http://www.rose-hulman.edu/Gradcast/.
