This senior/graduate course is intended to extend the theoretical FEA skills obtained in ME422 via ANSYS, an industry standard finite element analysis package. Students will be exposed to "training" problems in stress analysis, thermal analysis, emag analysis, modal analysis, contact analysis, and computational fluid dynamics to build the base skill set for the quarter project - a finite element analysis of a non-trivial physical phenomenae.
Upon completion of the course, the student will have gained dexterity with ANSYS, investigated a problem of interest, served as a peer reviewer for topics outside their area of expertise, mathematically asessed solution convergence, succintly presented thier results via a poster presentation, and, penultimately, have developed a highly marketable skill set that will serve them well in nearly every field of engineering.
