Tentative Office Hours:
Monday 10:30-11:20 and also by appointment.
- Homework will be assigned on a weekly basis,
and will be due on Wednesday.
Some of the assignments will be worksheets or mathematical projects,
while some of them will be short papers.
The homework will count for 20% of your final grade.
- I would like you to keep a reading journal of current articles
related to cryptography. Every Friday you should turn in a paragraph
summary of an article related to cryptography published in a newspaper
or newsmagazine during the
previous month. (I encourage you to turn these in by e-mail.) I
would like a bibliographic citation of the article and a short
summary in your own words. Let me know if you have any questions.
This will count for 10% of your final grade.
- There will be a term paper due in this class,
with both a first draft and a final draft to be handed in. More
information will be provided as the time comes. The term paper will
count for 20% of your final grade.
- There will be a midterm exam given in class, which will count
for 20% of your final grade. The final exam for
the course will probably be a take-home exam, and will be cumulative.
It will count for 25% of your final grade.
- The remaining 5% of your final grade will be based on classroom
participation. In addition to informal discussion, there may also be
opportunities for formal presentations.
- In addition to the other class requirements, I would like everyone to
have e-mail and web access, and check them regularly. If this is a
problem with anyone, please see me.
