III. Exam Subject Matter & Format

  The AHSME covers high school mathematics excluding calculus.  It is a 30-question, 90-minute multiple choice exam with 5 points given for each correct answer and 2 points for each answer left blank.  The exam is centrally scored at the office of the Executive Director in Lincoln, Nebraska.  AHSME participants scoring 100 or greater will be invited to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) which takes place 5 weeks after the AHSME.
