How to Install: DyKnow Vision

Overview

DyKnow Vision is a system that enhances collaboration and note-taking in the classroom and elsewhere.

This page shows how to install the free DyKnow Vision client that you use for viewing and participating in DyKnow Vision sessions. This page also shows how to install the DyKnow Notebook Writer that is helpful for creating DyKnow notebooks from PowerPoint slides. See www.dyknow.com for more about DyKnow itself.

Installing the DyKnow Vision client (install this on your laptop to view the DyKnow sessions that you save)

To install the DyKnow Vision client and Notebook Writer:

1. Log on as an Administrator (e.g., by using your localmgr account).
2. Run:

   • this DyKnow Vision installer if you have a 32-bit operating system, or
   • this DyKnow Vision installer if you have a 64-bit operating system
   • 64-bit DyKnow will only run on Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit. All Windows XP users must use the 32-bit version of DyKnow.

   and answer its questions as follows:

1. When the dialog box appears, select Run.
2. Download the Microsoft .NET 2.0 Framework (free), if prompted.
3. Accept the terms, and click Next through the installer.
4. For Select Features. check the Install DyKnow Vision box and uncheck the Install DyKnow Monitor box. (We won't be using DyKnow Monitor.)
5. For Communication Settings, select Set my DyKnow communication settings now and then type

        dyknow.cs.rose-hulman.edu
   

   as the Server Name or IP Address.
6. Finally, click Install to begin the installation of DyKnow Vision, then Finish as the installation completes.

3. Run this DyKnow Notebook Writer installer and answer its questions as follows:

1. When the dialog box appears, select Run.
2. Accept all defaults, and Continue Anyway if you get a warning about the software not passing Windows Logo testing yet.
