Rose-Hulman Women's Soccer Defeats MSJ In Overtime, Clinches Top Spot For HCAC Tournament

Eli Baca scored three goals to help Rose-Hulman defeat Mount St. Joseph and clinch the number one spot for the HCAC Tournament.

BOX SCORE

TERRE HAUTE, IND. --  Mount St. Joseph jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Rose-Hulman women's soccer team rallied with three straight goals to help clinch the number one spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineers were led by junior Eli Baca (Santa Fe, N.M.) who scored all three goals for the Engineers.   Junior Ame Turner (Evansville, Ind./North) and sophomore Anna Vogel (East Greenwich, R.I./ La Salle Academy) both picked up an assist.

After a scoreless first half, the Lions scored two goals to start the second half.  Jessica Pykosz scored the first goal on a blast from 30 yards out.

Mount's second goal came from Laurie Neumann off a corner kick from teammate Ashley Maynard.

Baca scored her first goal of the game in the 68th minute off a crossing pass from Turner to make the score 2-1.  Her second goal in the 86th minute came on a rebound and a misplayed scramble that knotted the score.

Eight minutes into overtime, Baca finished her hat trick off an indirect free kick from Vogel.  The score lifted Rose-Hulman into the No. 1 seed for this week's HCAC Tournament, which begins with a home match on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Transylvania University.

Sophomore goalie Julie Brennan (Indianapolis, Ind./ Pike)  picked up nine saves in the contest to record her eighth victory of the season.

With the win, Rose Hulman improved to 8-9 on the season and 7-1 in the HCAC.  The win secured the matchup with Transylvania, while Mount St. Joseph travels to Hanover in the other tournament semifinal on Wednesday.
