TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Fightin' Engineers
women's soccer earned a place in the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Tournament with a 2-1 over visiting Defiance
on Saturday afternoon.
Seniors Jen Lyman (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford)
and Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern U.)
were honored prior to the game for Senior Day.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 1-0
lead when Hannah Davis scored on a free kick in the 23rd minute,
the only goal in the first 45 minutes of play.
Lyman tied the game at 1-1 with her ninth goal of
the season in the 73rd minute on an assist by sophomore Molly
Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John's Country Day).
The Engineers would take a 2-1 and earn the
victory on a game winning goal by Katie Anderson (Lancaster,
Ohio) in the 77th minute off an assist by Lyman.
The victory earned Rose-Hulman the #4 seed in the
HCAC Tournament as they will travel to Mt. St. Joseph on Tuesday
to take on the top seeded Lions at 7:00 p.m. The Engineers
finished the regular season with a mark of 12-6 and a 5-3 record
in HCAC play.
