TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology sophomore Molly Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St.
John's Country Day) scored three goals in nine minutes in
the second half to lead the Engineers past DePauw University 3-2
on Wednesday night.
DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Abby
Gerwin in the fourth minutes and Kristen McMahon in the 64th
minute.
Richardson began the comeback with a breakaway
goal in the 72nd minute to bring the Engineers within 2-1.
Sophomore Annmarie Stanley (Warrenville,
Ill./Rosary) provided an assist on Richardson's second goal
with a corner kick. Another Richardson breakaway score led
to the final margin of victory.
Freshman Julie Brennan (Indianapolis/Pike)
picked up the victory in goal with three saves. DePauw
outshot the Engineers 17-15 in the evenly contested match, with
Richardson firing 10 of Rose-Hulman's efforts.
The victory was a hallamark win for head coach
Emily Hakeman, who played on a DePauw University team that
reached the Final Four prior to graduation in 2003.
Rose-Hulman improved to 11-6 on the season and
returns to action against Defiance College on Saturday.
The Engineers will earn a trip to the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Tournament if they can defeat the Yellow
Jackets on Saturday. DePauw fell to 5-9-2 on the year.
