TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman women’s
soccer team fell to Transylvania in their first Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference match by a final of 3-1 on
Saturday.
The Engineers took a 1-0 lead in
the 5th minute when sophomore Molly Richardson (Orange
Park, Fla./St. John’s Country Day) headed in a free kick off the
foot of senior Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./ Northwestern
Univ.).
Transylvania evened the score at
1-1 in the 21st minute on a goal by Katie Sutherland that
was assisted by Katie Kelly.
The Pioneers struck again in the
33rd minute to take a 2-1 lead at the half on an unassisted goal by
Katie McKelway and would find the back of the net again in the 69th
minute to clinch the victory.
Offensively, the Engineers were
led by Richardson who tallied four shots and Ridgway who added two.
In goal, freshman Julie
Brennan (Indianapolis/Pike) recorded six saves, raising her
season total to 15.
With the loss, Rose-Hulman drops
to 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in HCAC play. The Engineers return to
action on Friday, September 26, when they host Spalding University
at the Rose-Hulman Intramural Field at 3:30 p.m.
