TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman women’s soccer team fell to Transylvania in their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match by a final of 3-1 on Saturday.

The Engineers took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute when sophomore Molly Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John’s Country Day) headed in a free kick off the foot of senior Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./ Northwestern Univ.)

Transylvania evened the score at 1-1 in the 21st minute on a goal by Katie Sutherland that was assisted by Katie Kelly.

The Pioneers struck again in the 33rd minute to take a 2-1 lead at the half on an unassisted goal by Katie McKelway and would find the back of the net again in the 69th minute to clinch the victory.

Offensively, the Engineers were led by Richardson who tallied four shots and Ridgway who added two.

In goal, freshman Julie Brennan (Indianapolis/Pike) recorded six saves, raising her season total to 15.

With the loss, Rose-Hulman drops to 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in HCAC play.  The Engineers return to action on Friday, September 26, when they host Spalding University at the Rose-Hulman Intramural Field at 3:30 p.m.
