HANCOCK, MICH. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology relied on a school record tying four goals from
senior Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Northwestern
University) to record a 6-0 victory over St.
Mary-of-the-Woods College in the crosstown women's soccer
matchup on Wednesday.
Ridgway scored in the 10th and 13th minutes to help the
Engineers jump out to an early 2-0 advantage. Sophomore Molly
Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John's Country Day), who
assisted on the first goal, then made the score 3-0 on an assist
from sophomore Kendra Albers (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut).
Ridgway then tallied scores in the 42nd and 43rd minutes to push
Rose-Hulman's lead to 5-0 at the break. Senior Jen Lyman
(Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) assisted the final score of the
opening frame.
Albers wrapped up the scoring in the 58th minute on an assist
from freshman Carolyn Guzik (Avon, Ohio/Padua Franciscan).
Rose-Hulman outshot the visiting Pomeroys by a 31-4 count,
including a 24-1 margin in the opening half. The duo of freshman
Julie Brennan (Indianapolis/Pike) and Mary Ellenberger
(Greenfield/Central) combined on the shutout.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-2 on the season with the victory,
while St. Mary-of-the-Woods dropped to 0-2. The Engineers return
to action at Millikin University on Sunday.
