GREENVILLE, ILL. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology earned a come from behind 6-5 victory at Greenville
College in its women's soccer season opener on Friday to give
first-year head coach Emily Hakeman her first collegiate
victory.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to an early two-goal lead,
before Greenville scored four consecutive times to take a 4-2
lead. The Engineers responded with four straight goals of
their own to secure the win.
Freshman Aleksandra Kampa (Garden Grove,
Calif./Orange County Lutheran) opened the scoring in the
seventh minute, courtesy of a pass from senior Jen Lyman
(Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford). The Rose-Hulman lead
reached 2-0 on a score by freshman Carolyn Guzik (Avon,
Ohio/Padua Franciscan) off a corner kick by sophomore
Annmarie Stanley (Warrenville, Ill./Rosary).
Greenville relied on two goals from Jackie
Sievert and another pair of scores from Nikki Ziegemeier to
claim a 4-2 lead with 1:58 left in the first half. The
Engineers answered with a key goal one minute later to close
within 4-3 at halftime on a score by sophomore Kendra Albers
(Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut Academy) on a pass from Guzik.
Rose-Hulman scored three goals in a 21-minute
span in the second half to gain control of the game. Lyman
dribbled end to end to tie the contest at 4-4 in the 57th
minute, before senior Liz Ridgway (Grosse Pointe,
Mich./Northwestern University) scored off a deflection in
the Greenville backfield four minutes later. Sophomore
Molly Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John's Country Day)
added another end-to-end tally to wrap up the Engineer scoring.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season and returns
to action against Principia College on Saturday at Greenville.
