Matthew Cole enters his second year as head women's cross country coach and his fourth season with the track and field coaching staff this fall.

The women’s cross country team recorded a historic 2007 effort in Cole’s first season as head coach.  The Engineers placed third overall in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with an effort that featured all-league accolades for Rachel Krasich and Melissa Rogers.

Krasich also became the first Engineer female student-athlete to qualify for an NCAA Division III National Championship event with her 11th place performance at the Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 10.  She competed in the NCAA Division III National Championships at St. Olaf College in mid-November and placed 138th of 280 runners.

For the track and field team, Cole specializes in hurdles and sprint events.  Cole tutored 2007 HCAC hurdles champions Michael Burris and Katy Evert.

Cole also works as the team’s video coordinator, Finishlynx Timing System Operator and added responsibilities as assistant director for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships at Rose-Hulman in 2007.

During his running career at Mount Union College, Cole was a four-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion in the high hurdles. He earned two NCAA Division III National Qualifications and ranked fourth nationally during the 2005 season.  Cole holds the Mount Union school record in the 55-meter hurdles.

Cole completed his bachelor’s degree in media computing and sports management at Mount Union in 2005.  He is married to Rose-Hulman’s assistant athletic trainer Kristen.
