Rebekah Forsyth School Record 38 Points Leads Rose-Hulman Past Marian 84-70
TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Rebekah Forsyth (Farmersburg/N. Central) snapped her own school record with 38 points to lead the Engineers past Marian College (Ind.) 84-70 on Sunday at Hulbert Arena. The Engineers captured the Rose-Hulman Invitational title with the win and improved their school record winning streak to seven games. Forsyth finished 14-16 shooting to tie the school record for field goals made in a game. She added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in the effort which snapped her previous school record of 34 points last year at Hendrix. Junior Jill Floyd (Bloomington, Ill./Olympia) also reached double figures with 15 points on a perfect 8-8 from free-throw line. Senior Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) added eight points and five assists, while junior Katie Tharp (Linton) had eight points and three rebounds. In addition, Rose-Hulman set a single-game school record with 34 made free throws in 43 attempts. Floyd was 8-8 from the line, Carlson 6-6 and Forsyth 9-13 to lead the team effort.
Whitney Frame led the Marian attack with 16 points. Amanda Allen and Erika Dobbs each added eight for the Knights. Rose-Hulman shot 52% from the field in the victory and tallied a 26-12 edge in points off turnovers. The two teams battled through a close margin for much of the first half, with Rose-Hulman leading by four through eight points. Marian closed to within 35-28, before a three-pointer and a jumper by Forsyth gave the Engineers a 40-30 lead at the break. In the second half, Marian turned a 13-point margin into a five-point deficit at 55-50 on a layup by Jessica Carr with 9:54 remaining. The Engineers answered with eight consecutive points, highlighted by a three-pointer from Floyd and four free throws by Tharp, to earn a 63-50 lead and secure their 10th win of the season. Rose-Hulman will enjoy a Holiday Break before returning to action at Webster University on December 29. The Engineers then travel to Defiance for Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Jan. 3, before hosting Transylvania on Jan. 6. | ||||
