Suzy Carlson Wins NCAA Statistical National Championship for Free Throw Accuracy; Engineers Capture Team Title

Suzy Carlson -- NCAA Division III free throw national champion -- her second career statistical national title.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – For the second consecutive year, junior guard Suzy Carlson (State College, Pa.) has earned an NCAA Division III Women's Basketball statistical national championship for her shooting accuracy at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.  Her efforts also helped the Engineers earn a team statistical national title.

Carlson buried 123 of 129 free throw attempts on the 2005-06 season for a 95.3% effort to earn the NCAA Division III free throw accuracy national championship.

Her efforts helped Rose-Hulman lead all NCAA basketball teams (men or women, Division I, II or III) in free-throw accuracy at 82.4%.  No other team in any division surpassed the 80% mark.

Carlson captured the second NCAA Division III statistical national championship of her Rose-Hulman career with the free-throw title.  In the 2004-05 season, she led all NCAA basketball players in three-point accuracy at 55.8%.  That mark ranked fourth in the history of Division III women's basketball and was the highest percentage recorded by any player since 1993.

Carlson's marked ranked second among players in all divisions and both genders, behind the 96.2% effort of Penn State guard Adrienne Squire, a native of Indian Creek High School in central Indiana.

Rose-Hulman compiled a 13-12 record on the 2005-06 season for the first winning campaign in program history.  The Engineers open the 2006-07 schedule with a trip to the Franklin College Invitational on Nov. 17-18.
