Thomas Reives - first-team academic

TERRE HAUTE,
IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed three
student-athletes on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team
in track and field, with two first-squad selections.
Seniors Rachel Krasich
(Westfield) and Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/ Arsenal Tech)
captured first-team academic all-district honors, while
sophomore Michael Burris (Terre Haute/North) was a
second-team honoree.

Krasich and Reives will
advance to the national ballot, with the ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-America Team scheduled for release on June 23 (men) and June 25
(women).
Krasich became the first
women's national qualifier in Rose-Hulman sports history with her
cross country efforts last fall. She placed in the top half of
the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships after finishing 11th in the
Division III Regional. Her cross country efforts include
school records for the five (18:54) and six (22:06) kilometer races.
In track and field, Krasich
has established seven school records and was the 3,000-meter
steeplechase champion at the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference meet.
In the classroom, Krasich
compiled a 3.90 grade point average with a double major of chemistry
and biochemistry and molecular biology.
Reives has already become the
first student-athlete in Rose-Hulman history to earn Academic
All-American honors in two sports. He captured second-team
honors in football (2007) and track and field (2007) and was named
the HCAC Field Events Most Valuable Athlete at this year's league
championships.

Reives claimed HCAC titles in
the triple jump (46' 6") and the long jump (22' 5 3/4") to help lead
Rose-Hulman to its first team conference title since 1989. His
triple jump mark measured a conference record, and he was the top
scorer in the 2008 league meet with fourth-place efforts in the high
jump and 100-meter dash.
In the classroom, Reives
compiled a 3.98 grade point average in mechanical engineering and
was the athletic department John Logan Award Winner for the highest
grade point average among male student-athletes.
Burris has won a pair of
110-meter high hurdle championships in HCAC meets during the first
two years of his college track career. He has added a pair of
second-place finishes in the 400-meter intermdiate hurdles.
In addition, Burris was named
the 2007 HCAC Freshman of the Year in track and field and also added
third-place finishes in the long jump and 4-x-100-meter relay at
this spring's league meet.
Burris carries a 3.91 grade
point average in mechanical engineering into his third year at
Rose-Hulman next fall. |
