Thomas Reives - first-team academic all-district

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed three student-athletes on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team in track and field, with two first-squad selections.

Seniors Rachel Krasich (Westfield) and Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/ Arsenal Tech) captured first-team academic all-district honors, while sophomore Michael Burris (Terre Haute/North) was a second-team honoree.

Krasich and Reives will advance to the national ballot, with the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team scheduled for release on June 23 (men) and June 25 (women).

Krasich became the first women's national qualifier in Rose-Hulman sports history with her cross country efforts last fall.  She placed in the top half of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships after finishing 11th in the Division III Regional.  Her cross country efforts include school records for the five (18:54) and six (22:06) kilometer races.

In track and field, Krasich has established seven school records and was the 3,000-meter steeplechase champion at the 2008 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference meet.

In the classroom, Krasich compiled a 3.90 grade point average with a double major of chemistry and biochemistry and molecular biology.

Reives has already become the first student-athlete in Rose-Hulman history to earn Academic All-American honors in two sports.  He captured second-team honors in football (2007) and track and field (2007) and was named the HCAC Field Events Most Valuable Athlete at this year's league championships.

Michael Burris - second-team academic all-district

Reives claimed HCAC titles in the triple jump (46' 6") and the long jump (22' 5 3/4") to help lead Rose-Hulman to its first team conference title since 1989.  His triple jump mark measured a conference record, and he was the top scorer in the 2008 league meet with fourth-place efforts in the high jump and 100-meter dash.

In the classroom, Reives compiled a 3.98 grade point average in mechanical engineering and was the athletic department John Logan Award Winner for the highest grade point average among male student-athletes.

Burris has won a pair of 110-meter high hurdle championships in HCAC meets during the first two years of his college track career.  He has added a pair of second-place finishes in the 400-meter intermdiate hurdles.

In addition, Burris was named the 2007 HCAC Freshman of the Year in track and field and also added third-place finishes in the long jump and 4-x-100-meter relay at this spring's league meet.

Burris carries a 3.91 grade point average in mechanical engineering into his third year at Rose-Hulman next fall.
