Ben Sollman -- CCIW Men's Co-Swimmer of the Week |
TERRE HAUTE, IND.--
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology freshman Ben Sollman (N.
Vernon/ Jennings County) has been named the College Conference
of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Swimmer of the Week for his efforts
in the Fightin' Engineer victory at the Principia Invitational on
Saturday.
Sollman won the
200-yard backstroke event with a time of 2:05.84, and helped the
200-yard medley relay team captured a victory with a time of
1:43.40.
In addition,
Sollman provided a strong performance for the 400-freestyle relay
squad that helped the Fightin' Engineers place second. He
rounded out the day with a third-place effort in the 200-freestyle
in a time of 1:55.83.
Sollman, who shared
the weekly conference honor with Christopher Sykes of Millikin,
helped the Rose-Hulman men's team outscore fellow CCIW swimming
member Augustana College by a margin of 600-588 overall.
Millikin placed third with 465 points.
Sollman joins
teammates Katie Trella, Steven Vande Lune and Brian Yount as CCIW
Swimmers of the Week so far this season.
Rose-Hulman
competes in the CCIW in men's and women's swimming. The
Engineers compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in
19 sports, and the rifle squad participates in the Western
Intercollegiate Rifle Conference.
Rose-Hulman will
take the week off as preparations begin for the CCIW Men's and
Women's Swimming Championships on Feb. 19-21. The diving
portion of the squad returns to action at the Illinois Wesleyan
Titan Invitational on Feb. 14.
