  Rose-Hulman News Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep Millikin
in Saturday Home Meet
 

The Engineer swimming and diving teams each won dual meets with Millikin on Saturday.

MEET RESULTS

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman men's and women's swim teams earned victories over visiting Millikin University on Saturday afternoon.  The men's squad outscored Millikin 136-87, while the women earned a 109-78 victory. 

The Engineer men captured eight first place finishes and were led by junior Brian Yount (Bloomington, Ill.) who earned three first place finishes.  Yount was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team who took top honors in 1:45.80, won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.10, and posted a time of 59.49 in winning the 100-yard backstroke. 

Senior Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo) contributed to the winning effort by capturing two first place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.71) and in the 400-yard freestyle relay with freshmen Andrew McCurry (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine Township), Greg Laudick (Indianapolis/Brebeuf), and Andrew Jordan (New Palestine) (3:33.16) and a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:59.95). 

Other top finishers for Engineers included junior Clayton Shotwell (Arcadia, Ind./Hamilton Heights) who earned a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.80) and a pair of second place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.61) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.61), freshman Daniel Lee (Rochester, Minn./Century) who was a part of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:45.78) and took second place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.40), and junior Landry Carbo (Lafayette, La./Episcopal of Acadiana) who took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.18. 

Sophomore Michael Gerdov (Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai Stevenson) took top honors in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, scoring 231.85 in the one-meter competition and 251.90 in the three-meter event. 

The Rose-Hulman women were led by sophomore Katie Trella (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine Township) who took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.28, the 500-yard freestyle in 5:40.17, and was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay who posted a mark of 4:08.15. 

Other top finishes for Rose-Hulman included junior Deb Aleksa (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) earned a first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:31.02 and took second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:19.84; junior Stephanie Hance (Noblesville) who won the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.19) and was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (4:08.15); sophomore Heather Weist (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) who tallied a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.56) and was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay; and sophomore Caitlin Kohli (Lima, Ohio/Bath) who added a pair of wins in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:59.95) and in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

Sophomore Heather Stephens (Bloomington) also took first place in the one-meter diving event posting a score of 158.95.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at Monmouth College on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Central time.
