Sean Helliwell -- Rose-Hulman's
new head men's soccer coach |
TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has named Sean Helliwell as
head men’s soccer coach, effective July 28.
Helliwell becomes the fourth head coach in the history of men’s soccer at Rose-Hulman.
He takes over for Brad Hauter, who compiled a record of 55-37-5 in five seasons
before accepting the head coaching position at DePauw University last spring.
Helliwell spent the past two seasons as assistant coach at NCAA Division I
Western Kentucky University. In January, the Hilltoppers announced a
discontinuation of the soccer program for the upcoming 2008 campaign.
Prior
to accepting the Western Kentucky position, Helliwell served as the head soccer
coach at Greenwood High School in Bowling Green, Ky. He compiled a
155-56-17 record in a tenure that featured nine district, four regional and two
sectional championships. His 2004 squad placed second in the Kentucky
State Tournament.
Helliwell is actively involved in the Olympic Development Program in Region 2
and will serve as the assistant coach for the 93 Boys Regional team this summer.
"I am
very excited to be given this opportunity and look forward to working with
the student-athletes and staff at Rose-Hulman," said Helliwell.
In his
collegiate career, Helliwell played four seasons and served as team captain for
three years at the University of Southern Indiana, prior to earning his
bachelor’s degree in 1995.
Helliwell inherits a Rose-Hulman program that has placed second in the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference for each of the past two seasons. The Engineers
finished 12-6-2 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play in 2007. |
