Clint Vatterrodt scored one goal on
six shots in a victory over Bluffton University |

TERRE HAUTE, IND—The Rose-Hulman Institute
of Technology men’s soccer team defeated Bluffton 3-0 in Saturday’s soccer
matchup to clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming HCAC Men's Soccer Tournament.
The Engineers were led by sophomore Clint
Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill/University), who led the team with a goal and
six shots. Junior Mitch Buffington (O'Fallon, Ill) contributed five shots
as the Engineers outshot the Beavers 18-7
The Engineers first goal of the game was an
own goal by a Bluffton defender after it deflected off his leg on a long throw
in attempt by senior Cameron Hazel (Danville, Ill/Schlarman).
Vatterrodt scored his third goal of the
season off the assists by sophomore Logan Peak (Stillwatter Minn./Stillwater
Area) and junior Corbin Clow (Martinsville, Ind). Clow crossed it to
Peak who was able to use a header to Vatterrodt for the goal.
Junior Paul Boughnon (St. Charles,
Ill/Burlington Central) scored the Engineer's third goal on a breakaway in
the 81st minute of the game for his fourth goal of the season.
Senior goalie Andy Cheung (Beaufort,
S.C./Beaufort Academy) recorded four saves on his way to his second victory
of the season
The Engineers are now 11-4-1 for the season
and 7-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The men are back in
action Tuesday night as they travel to DePauw for a nonconference matchup.
The HCAC Tournament begins with semifinal action on Nov. 3 at Rose-Hulman.
