GRANVILLE, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology and Case Western Reserve University battled to a 1-1
men's soccer draw in a matchup of two of the Great Lakes Region
perennially ranked teams.
After a scoreless first half, Case Western jumped ahead 1-0 with
a score in the 51st minute by Mikey Schmid on a pass from Brian
Evans.
Rose-Hulman knotted the score at 1-1 with a tally in the 76th
minute. Senior Rhys Evans (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake
Forest) scored after the Engineers earned a corner kick.
Juniors Mitch Buffington (O'Fallon, Ill.) and Clint
Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) were credited with
assists on the score.
Case Western narrowly outshot Rose-Hulman 21-18 in the offensive
minded matchup. Vatterrodt recorded six shots for the
Engineers, with Evans adding five and junior Corbin Clow
(Martinsville) contributing three.
Senior Andy Cheung (Beaufort, S.C./Beaufort Academy) led
the team's defensive effort with seven saves in net in relief of
junior Eric Davenport (New Lenox, Ill./Central-Way), who
had one save in 16 minutes of action.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-2-1 on the season and returns to action on
Wednesday at Wabash College.
