  Rose-Hulman News Second Half Rally Falls Short as Principia Tops Engineers 4-3

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Principia College scored a pair of goals in each half to withstand a Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rally and earn a 4-3 men's soccer victory at Jim Rendel Field on Wednesday.

Ricky Seaman led the Panther offense with two goals on three shots, with Yaw Danso providing three assists for Principia.  Spencer Brown and Colin Angle also scored for the winners.

Junior Corbin Clow (Martinsville) scored a pair of goals to keep Rose-Hulman within striking distance.  Sophomore Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington, Ill./University) added the first Engineer goal of the afternoon.

Principia jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on a score by Brown on a pass from Danso.  Rose-Hulman quickly answered to knot the score at 1-1 in the 12th minute on a strong shot Vatterrodt, courtesy of a pass from Clow.

The duo of Seaman and Danso connected to give Principia a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute.  Rose-Hulman answered to knot the score at 2-2 on a score by Clow with assists from Vatterrodt and sophomore Tim Hollingshead (St. Peter's, Mo./Lutheran St. Charles).

Principia answered with the next two scores to earn a 4-2 advantage.  Seaman finished a pair of passes off an indirect kick in the 49th minute, before Angle scored on an assist from Andres Depaz in the 69th minute.

Clow delivered again for Rose-Hulman to bring the margin within 4-3.  Vatterrodt and senior Cameron Hazel (Danville, Ill./Schlarman) contributed the assists in the 76th minute.

Rose-Hulman mounted several challenges in the final minutes but was unable to knot the score.  The Engineers outshot Principia 11-9 on the day, led by Clow with three shots.  Vatterrodt and freshman Adam Carlson (Brownsburg) added two shots each.

Principia improved to 1-0 on the season, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 1-1.  The Engineers return to action at Denison University with matchups against Washington University on Saturday and Case Western Reserve on Sunday.
