RICHMOND, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology began the 2009 men's soccer season with a 1-0 victory
over Earlham College on Tuesday.
Junior Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles,
Ill./Burlington Central) scored the lone goal of the match
with 20:47 remaining on an assist from junior Corbin Clow
(Martinsville) to help the Engineers earn the victory.
Junior Andy Kruth (Cedar Park, Texas/Vista
Ridge) recorded a pair of timely saves to keep the Quakers
off the scoreboard and claim the shutout.
Rose-Hulman outshot Earlham 8-7 in the tightly
contested match and also held a narrow edge in corner kicks at
4-3.
Sophomore Clint Vatterrodt (Bloomington,
Ill./University) paced the Engineer offense with four
shouts, including two on goal. Bouagnon added a pair of
shots, with Clow and junior Mitch Buffington (O'Fallon, Ill.)
contributing one shot each.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season and returns
to action with its home opener on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against
Principia College.
