TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology graduate Tim Cindric, who currently serves
as the President of Penske Racing, has been honored with a
plaque in the newly remodeled NCAA Hall of Champions that
reopens this Thursday.Cindric is
part of an exhibit on former athletes "who have been
successful in
something other than sports." His headshot photo
appears on a plaque as part of this new exhibit, along with
a description of his accomplishments.
Cindric currently serves as the President
of Penske Racing, which has captured four Indianapolis 500
titles and one Daytona 500 championship since he joined the
organization in 2000. Penske Racing has also earned
one Indycar series championship with Sam Hornish Jr. and two
CART championships with Gil De Ferran.
His role in Penske Racing includes serving
as a supervisor over the Indycar and NASCAR team operations,
along with significant work in the American Le Mans Series.
During an Indycar event weekend, Cindric
joins team owner Roger Penske on the official team radios
for the team's two drivers. He also serves as a
coordinator for the team's weekly NASCAR operation that
features drivers Kurt Busch, Sam Hornish Jr. and David
Stremme.
At Rose-Hulman, Cindric scored 1,081
points during his basketball career and helped the Engineers
earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1989. He earned
honorable mention Academic All-American honors before
graduating with a bachelor's degree in mechanical
engineering in 1990.
According to a news release by the NCAA,
the organization had planned to renovate the Hall of
Champions prior to damage suffered on Nov. 14, 2007.
The NCAA Hall of Champions will reopen to the public on
March 12 with hours of 10 to 5 on Tuesday through Saturday
and noon until 5 on Sunday. Admission tickets to the
Hall of Champions are available for $5 for general
admissions and $3 for youth, students and senior citizens.
