TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology graduate Tim Cindric, who currently serves as the President of Penske Racing, has been honored with a plaque in the newly remodeled NCAA Hall of Champions that reopens this Thursday.

Cindric is part of an exhibit on former athletes "who have been successful in something other than sports."  His headshot photo appears on a plaque as part of this new exhibit, along with a description of his accomplishments.

Cindric currently serves as the President of Penske Racing, which has captured four Indianapolis 500 titles and one Daytona 500 championship since he joined the organization in 2000.  Penske Racing has also earned one Indycar series championship with Sam Hornish Jr. and two CART championships with Gil De Ferran.

His role in Penske Racing includes serving as a supervisor over the Indycar and NASCAR team operations, along with significant work in the American Le Mans Series.

During an Indycar event weekend, Cindric joins team owner Roger Penske on the official team radios for the team's two drivers.  He also serves as a coordinator for the team's weekly NASCAR operation that features drivers Kurt Busch, Sam Hornish Jr. and David Stremme.

At Rose-Hulman, Cindric scored 1,081 points during his basketball career and helped the Engineers earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1989.  He earned honorable mention Academic All-American honors before graduating with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1990.

According to a news release by the NCAA, the organization had planned to renovate the Hall of Champions prior to damage suffered on Nov. 14, 2007.  The NCAA Hall of Champions will reopen to the public on March 12 with hours of 10 to 5 on Tuesday through Saturday and noon until 5 on Sunday.  Admission tickets to the Hall of Champions are available for $5 for general admissions and $3 for youth, students and senior citizens.
