TERRE HAUTE, IND. –
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Paul Spreen
(Williams/Bedford N. Lawrence) has been named a first-team
preseason NCAA Division III All-American in the 2008 edition of the
Lindy's College Football Preview magazine.
Spreen was named the Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2007
after a standout junior campaign. He was also named an
all-region standout by
d3football.com last season.
Spreen led the HCAC with 19
tackles-for-loss and two forced fumbles, while leading all
conference defensive linemen with 62 tackles. He tallied the
second most tackles on Rose-Hulman's defensive roster and increased
his career totals to 39 tackles-for-loss and 16.5 sacks in three
seasons.
In his three years as a
defensive starter, Spreen has compiled 199 tackles, 39
tackles-for-loss and stands ninth in school history with 16.5 sacks.
The 6-3, 255-pound Spreen has also recorded 11 pass deflections and
five forced fumbles as a Fightin' Engineer.
Rose-Hulman finished the
season with a 7-3 record for its best season since 1994. The
Engineers also tallied a 4-3 conference mark for its first winning
season in league play since 1995.
