Steve Hawkins Earns Two Awards for Efforts in Saturday Win

Steve Hawkins grabbed two interceptions in Saturday's victory over Bluffton.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Steve Hawkins (Casey, Ill.) earned two weekly awards for his efforts in the 21-14 victory over Bluffton University on Saturday.

Hawkins was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and also earned the team's weekly Terre Haute Exchange Club Player of the Week honor after grabbing two interceptions in the Engineer victory.

His interception on Bluffton's first drive of the game turned into a 42-yard touchdown return that gave Rose-Hulman a 7-0 first quarter lead.

Hawkins added a second interception with 1:46 left in the fourth quarter to thwart a Bluffton drive and secure Rose-Hulman's victory.

On the day, the civil engineering major added six tackles with two solo efforts.  He also recorded a pass breakup and leads Rose-Hulman with 52 tackles on the season.

Hawkins will receive the Exchange Club honor at the organization's weekly lunch program on Tuesday.  The Engineers improved to 5-2 with the victory and host HCAC leader Franklin College on Saturday.
