TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology senior Steve Hawkins
(Casey, Ill.) earned two weekly awards for his efforts in the
21-14 victory over Bluffton University on Saturday.
Hawkins was named the
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the
Week and also earned the team's weekly Terre Haute Exchange Club
Player of the Week honor after grabbing two interceptions in the
Engineer victory.
His interception on Bluffton's
first drive of the game turned into a 42-yard touchdown return that
gave Rose-Hulman a 7-0 first quarter lead.
Hawkins added a second
interception with 1:46 left in the fourth quarter to thwart a
Bluffton drive and secure Rose-Hulman's victory.
On the day, the civil
engineering major added six tackles with two solo efforts. He
also recorded a pass breakup and leads Rose-Hulman with 52 tackles
on the season.
Hawkins will receive the
Exchange Club honor at the organization's weekly lunch program on
Tuesday. The Engineers improved to 5-2 with the victory and
host HCAC leader Franklin College on Saturday.
