RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Tim Schrock (Avon) rushed for three touchdowns and junior Bryan Wong (Warsaw/Tippecanoe Valley) added another to lead the Engineers past Concordia Chicago 31-13 on Saturday.

Schrock rushed for 84 yards and his three scores, while Wong tallied 74 yards and the fourth-quarter score to lead a 201-yard ground attack.

Sophomore Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill.) paced Rose-Hulman's passing attack with 15 completions in 28 attempts for 176 yards.

Senior Thomas Reives (Indianapolis/Arsenal Tech), junior Justin Meade (Middletown, Ohio/Madison) and freshman Reed Eason (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) each pitched in with four receptions for the Engineers.

The Concordia Chicago offense featured Khyree Copeland rushing for 52 yards and Jason Weeks finishing 6-15 through the air for 74 yards.

Defensively, senior Steve Hawkins (Casey, Ill./Casey Westfield) led Rose-Hulman with nine tackles.  Junior Paul Spreen (Williams/Bedford N. Lawrence) added three tackles-for-loss and one sack, while freshman Matt Behling (Columbus/North) had six stops, two tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovery.

"It's always good to go on the road and earn a win.  We're pleased to be 2-1 on the road, but we really look forward to returning home in front of our home fans next week," said Engineer coach Steve Englehart.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 3-0 on its first drive, a nine-play, 47-yard march that ended in a field goal.  Senior Jeremy Sharp (Warsaw) booted the 30-yard kick to open the scoring.

The Engineers took advantage of a fumble and a key pass play to make the score 10-0 later in the quarter.  Senior Drew Sandahl (Hillsdale, Mich.) recovered the Concordia fumble at the Cougar 35-yard line

Bryan Wong rushed for 74 yards and one touchdown on the day.

On the next play, Eitel connected with Reives on a 34-yard strike to the one-yard line.  Two plays later, Schrock scored from six yards out to make the tally 10-0.

Concordia Chicago closed to within 10-7 on its next possession, a 60-yard march in eight plays.  Copeland scored from eight yards out for the Cougar touchdown.

The Engineers increased their lead to 17-7 with a physical, nine-play drive in the second quarter.  Wong sprinted for gains of 19 and 12 yards on the drive, before Schrock scored from seven yards out for his second touchdown of the day.

Schrock scored his third touchdown of the day to cap a first half that featured 269 yards of total offense.  The junior scored from two yards out on third down with 13 seconds left in the opening half to make the score 24-7 at halftime.

Concordia Chicago marched 14 plays on its first drive of the third quarter, but Rose-Hulman held the Cougars out of the endzone with a fourth down stand.  The Cougars drove to the one-yard line, but Justin Peacock was stopped by the entire left side of the defensive line on fourth down to force a change of possession.

Rose-Hulman had an eight-play march of its own that led to a fourth down chance to start the fourth quarter, but Concordia Chicago was also able to hold the Engineers out of the endzone to maintain the 24-7 margin.

The Engineers rounded out the scoring with a 53-yard, nine-play march that made the score 31-7.  Wong capped the drive with a five-yard touchdown run to through the left side of the offensive line.

Concordia Chicago rounded out the scoring with a 21-yard fourth down pass from Mike Marotta to Ivan Kelenc in the final seconds to bring the score within 31-13.

Rose-Hulman improved to 2-1 on the season, while Concordia Chicago dropped to 1-2.  The Engineers return to action on Saturday with their home opener against North Park at 5 p.m.
