TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned four
first-team, four second-team and three honorable mention
selections on the all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference
football team in results released by the league office today.
Junior Austin Hastings (Santa Ana, Calif./
Foothill), senior Adam Helmerich (Huntingburg/ Southridge),
senior Drew Lopshire (South Whitley/ Whitko) and
sophomore Nate Richter (Zionsville) highlighted the
awards with first-team all-league recognition.
Second-team honorees included senior Mike
Alto (West Chester, Ohio/ Lakota East), junior Steve
Hawkins (Casey, Ill./Casey-Westfield), junior Jeremy
Sharp (Warsaw) and sophomore Paul Spreen
(Williams/Bedford N. Lawrence).

Rounding out the awards were honorable mention
selections for senior Cameron Hummel (Dunkirk/Jay County),
senior Ryan Robinson (Danville) and junior Adam
Williams (Pakota/Princeton).
The 11 players helped lead an effort that
resulted in a 6-4 record for Rose-Hulman, the team's best mark
and first winning season since 1995.
Hastings led the Engineers with 68 tackles and
18.5 tackles-for-loss as a starting outside linebacker in all 10
games. He added 4.5 sacks, one interception return for a
70-yard touchdown and has totaled 165 tackles and 25.5
tackles-for-loss in three years on the Rose-Hulman squad.
Helmerich paced the HCAC and ranked among the
national leaders with five blocked kicks, including two that led
directly to touchdowns. He recorded 40 tackles, five
tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions and one forced
fumble, including his first career touchdown on a 39-yard
interception return.

Lopshire ranked second in the conference with
five interceptions in his first season as a starting cornerback
and safety. He finished fourth on the team with 52 tackles
and recorded one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and two pass
breakups in 2006.
Richter recorded a team-high 32 receptions for
429 yards and three touchdowns to lead a balanced corps of wide
receivers. He also added 17 kickoff returns for a
team-high 286 yards and combined for 810 all-purpose yards as a
receiver, rusher and kick returner.
Second-team honorees were headlined by Alto, who
ranked third on the Engineers with 60 tackles and eight
tackles-for-loss. The defensive emotional leader added one
interception, one forced fumble, one blocked kick and scored his
first career touchdown vs. Concordia Chicago.
Hawkins finished second on Rose-Hulman with 62
tackles as a starter of all 10 games at both inside and outside
linebacker spots. The versatile Hawkins added 11
tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and increased
his career total to 182 stops.

Sharp became the first kicker in school history
to make 100% of his extra point tries in a season, finishing
27-27. He added nine field goals to move into fifth place
on the college's all-time field goals list and paced the team
with 54 points in 2006.
Spreen made the transition to defensive end from
outside linebacker a success to earn his second career
all-league honor. He led defensive linemen in tackles with
46, sacks with 5.5 and had 10.5 tackles-for-loss as a starter of
all 10 games.
Hummel capped a historic career ranked third in
school history with 4,417 passing yards, 372 completions and 27
touchdown passes. He also ranks ninth in school history
with a career rushing total of 1,787 yards. This season,
Hummel recorded a career-high efficiency rating of 129.42 and
passed for 971 yards and seven scores.
Robinson ranked second on the Engineers with 31
receptions for 397 yards and added one touchdown. A clutch
third-down receiver, Robinson ended his Rose-Hulman career with
56 catches for 649 receiving yards.
Williams anchored the offensive line effort with
starts in all 10 games at the right tackle position. The
line featured the same starting lineup in all 10 games, with
much of the short yardage game keyed behind Williams as the
right tackle.
Rose-Hulman opens the 2007 season on Sept. 1 at
Earlham College in Richmond.
